Sarah had a good time unwrapping presents and playing with a new train, piano, doll, turtle, and more! Plus, it was a white christmas...can't beat that!

Update

Sarah had a 6-month checkup at the pediatrician on Monday, and he was "floored" by her progress. At two years, she was only saying 10 or so words and was not as interactive with the doctor. Monday, though, she pointed to all her body parts as he named them, as well as saying a bunch of other words from things in the room.

We see her everyday so don't notice the progress as much, but I know Sarah has indeed exploded the past six months in her language (she know her letters and can read almost 100 words), her numbers (1-20), her social skills (she says "hi" to people, give them five, has little problems with one-on-one interaction), and her motor skills (climbing stairs, going down slides, running well, etc.).

Sarah is behind still in some areas like feeding herself with utensils, drinking from an open cup, and eating more of a variety of foods, so we might draft an Occupational Therapist--since our insurance will cover it--for a little extra help in those areas. Whatever can help her be less frustrated operating in her daily world and more successful as she gets old enough for school soon.

Fun in Disney World!

We had a good time visiting Disney World with Sarah's uncles Sean and Luis last week. The resort was excellent, and Sarah loved the "zoo" (Animal Kingdom), kiddie rides in the Magic Kingdom, and the cool fish and fountains at Epcot.

Walking with Sarah

Lately, Sarah has wanted to accompany me and the doggies sans stroller for our daily walks. Thus, what did go by fairly quickly has stretched due to a toddler and her interests: tiny ants on the sidewalk, various leaves on the ground, low-hanging tree branches, a child's markings on the sidewalk, someone mowing their lawn, a cloudy sky. I find it fascinating to see the world again through her eyes and am happy she is such an active and curious girl. :)

Update

Mommy and Daddy left Sarah for a few days this past weekend for the first time with Grammy, and she did fine. We missed her and talked about her, of course, but were happy to know she did great--getting undivided attention and new toys to boot definitely helps things out some. :)

In other news, Sarah is starting to say, "I want . . ." more instead of simply crying when she wants something or pointing. This is a good breakthrough and will lead to lots of new stuff, I'm sure.

Terrible Twos

In general, Sarah is a fun-loving, sweet, and curious little girl, but she does have her two-year-old moments of crying and fits. It seems these episodes of terrible twos mainly come from a developmental transition where she knows what she wants but is not fully able to express herself in words. Thus, we've been working on "using your words" the past few months instead of her just crying to get what she wants, something, of course, she did since a baby to tell us she was hungry, thirsty, or otherwise.

When you think about it, this transition is huge for any toddler. It can be hard for parents since Sarah doesn't simply ask for everything right away. We just have to remember to be patient and consistent as we work on her language skills, and the "terrible" twos will slowly melt away. :)

Big Changes...BIG!

Sarah gets a computer (kinda...a second computer in mom and dad's room).

Aaaaand, Sarah gets another upgrade to her bed! She's just growing too fast and needed a real "big girl" bed. That toddler day bed thingy wasn't cutting it!

Zoooooooo

Sarah and daddy went to the zoo for the first time today. She enjoyed the new surroundings, especially the lake there and seeing the "ducks" (i.e. geese). We need to work on the new animal words since she also called a deer and a squirrel "doggie".

The OKC zoo is nice, though...clean, with play areas for kids, and, of course, well-designed exhibits. A "children's zoo" is coming next year, so we look forward to that now that we're Zoo Friends.
